Local senior shopping services updates

We updated this page on Tuesday November 24.  Please note, we sometimes get conflicting information from store employees about their available services and accommodations for seniors. In addition, many local stores and business have made several changes to their hours and offerings during the past few months.  And on top of that, their websites don’t always keep up with their latest changes.  So for all these reasons we advise you to call the store or business to check with them if you wish to use their posted services.

If you have a tip or update for us, please let us know. Also tell us about your experience with any of the special senior services.  We are updating information here as we receive it. You can use our simple Contact form to reach us — open the Contact form here.

* Wendy Weitzel of the Davis Enterprise has posted an impressively detailed list of Davis restaurants with hours of operation and services offered.  Click here to view her list.

* The Mary L Stephens Library services have been updated recently.  For the most up-to-date information click here to access the Mary L Stephens Library website.

The DMV has modified services.  License holders 69 and younger qualify for online driver license renewal.  License holders over the age of 70 with March-December 2020 expirations are granted a one year extension from their original expiration date.  Click here for the DMV website.

** Change: Trader Joe’s has established a seniors (and other vulnerable persons) only shopping hour from 8-9 am Wednesdays and Sundays.

TJ’s does not offer home delivery, but if you are uncomfortable going into the store, they will shop for you — drive to the store and call from the parking lot.  An employee will come to your car, take your written list and debit/credit card,  and shop for you.  They process your payment and bring your items and receipt back out to your car.  Very nice service.

We (Jacci and Jay) continue to have  great experiences with TJ’s.  If you do not want to go into the store, they ask that you drive to the store parking lot first, then call them.  A worker comes out to your car, takes your written list, and shops for you.  They process your payment and bring the items and the receipt out to you.  Friendly, helpful folks and we appreciate the accommodations they’re making.  Thank you TJ’s!
